First Day Games

I like to play the game "One Truth, Two Falses" in order for students to get to know each other and for the instructor to get to know the students better.

Hi Melissa,
I like to use scavenger hunts in my class as well. They really help the students to get to know each other, have fun and learn the content.
Gary

I really enjoy having a scavenger hunt for the first term students. They have never seen any of the items on the list so they have to immediately work together, learn what is what, and they get to "tear up" the lab looking for the items. It is a lot of fun.

For one Truth, Two Falses students give the class or group two false bits of information about themselves or their life, and one true statement. The class then needs to guess which statement is true. This one is good because it also gives the instructor more time to process the face and the name of each student while the others are guessing which statement is true.

I am not familiar with the game "One Truth, Two Falses." Would someone please explain how to play it?

Ann, this is the same icebreaker that we play also. I find it very interesting. I enjoy playing this with the students!

I would play the game where a student would state their name and one interesting thing about themselves. This would continue around the room, where the next student would introduce themselves and also state one interesting about thing about him or her self, then would re-state all students that came before him (i.e., their name and their one interesting thing). It was insteresing to see who was actually paying attention. It is a listening game and getting acquainted game.
