Greet them at the door

This is one of the best lessons I learned from MaxKnowledge. The short check-in with each individual student as they arrive into the classroom really sets the tone for the rest of the day.

I challenge all teachers to test this theory, check in with them and let them you are delighted that they are there. Wow, they power of a simple task.

Hi Brenda,
All good suggestions for getting a course started off right from the beginning. This sets a professional tone to what you want to accomplish in your class.

Greet and meet is the most important part of the begining of the introduction of the course. It seems to ease the students and smiles appear :0). Also very important is to be on time, start on time and be available before and after class.

I second that, Its important for acknowledge the students it sets the tone for that one on one interpersonal respect that I enjoy in class.

I agree James. I always talk to students as they enter the classroom and ask how they are and if they may need any help with assignments or course work. I reassure each that as long as they work hard and study that they will be able to succeed. Sometimes a little reassurance goes a long way to new, re-entering students who have been out of the classroom for extended periods of time.
