First day games
What are a few first day games.
Hi Darlisa,
I don't have any specific ones in mind. What I do is to go to elementary and secondary websites and see what they have for games, ice breakers, and any other instructional activities I can use. Then I take those ideas and make them age and class appropriate. This way I keep coming up with new strategies based upon what I learned from the sites.

Are there any websites available?
Hi Deidra,
I like this one as well. I have used in with very good results just as you have experienced.

The icebreaker that I like to play is the students have to tell three truths about themselves and one lie. The class has to figure out what is the lie about the student. This game go over very well with the students.
Hi Tamara,
Thank you for sharing this ice breaker. This strategy will really help the students to get to know each other and everyone's name. This will be of help to many other instructors looking for ice breakers to use in their classes.

Hi Tiffany,
This is a great ice breaker for starting a class. Thanks for sharing it with us. I know it will be of help to many other instructors.

One of the games I like to play on the first day with the students is the name game. This game starts with one student stating their name and the next student says their name and the person's name before them, the next student states their name and the two students before them and so on.
I will take my students and divide them up into teams depending on how many students there is in class they line up single file and ask random questions (number of children in order from least to most, years married least to most, youngest to oldest, etc..) and with out talking they have to line up in order the fastest and the team with the most points wins. It is fun and they learn about each other with out actually talking.
Hi Deb,
No need to reinvent the wheel so the more you can borrow/steal from others the more instructional delivery options you will have available to use.

Yes this sounds great. I am not good at developing activities like this so I am always using those of other insturctors. You know what they say.... Good instructors borrow ideas, great instructor steal them.
Hi Lorena,
Sounds like a lot of fun. This will be an ice breaker that many instructors can use to start their class. Thanks for sharing it.

Last term I had my students play a speed dating type game so that we could all get to know each other. They loved it! They took notes then we laughed as I tried to make sense of them :)
