How to gently set the rules for your classroom

make sure the rules are posted in the classroom or lab or even prepare a separate handout. Keep the rules short, sweet and to the point. Remember that if you are teaching adults address them accordingly.

Hi Alice,
Good point. Rules and polices need to have a basis for being created and be enforced in a consistent manner.

Rules are good as long as there is fair punishment if they get broken. This has to be applied to all.

My school does the same thing. We have some general policies that are posted in every classroom that apply to all students and faculty. In addition, I have made rules that are specific to my area of the academic department---specifcally medical billing and coding courses. It used to be 5 pages long, but that was too intimidating for the students. So I streamlines the rules and narrowed it down to 2 pages.
