Motivitation

Keep the students motivate? What is it takes?

Hi Marilyn,
This is a great idea for getting students invested in what they are learning. Also, their efforts are on display so others get to see the results of the effort they put forth. The student excitement carries outside of the classroom as well. This really build self confidence for these students. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us.

A motivational strategy that I have had success with is to allow students to complete against one another in creating a poster/report of a topic that they really want to know additional information on any topic as long as the topic is covered in a chapter that is included on our syllabus. Students must utilize the internet and provide the web address and any other reference information. Believe it or not the students go all out on their topics and the best ones are posted along a hall-way that we call the "Hall-Of-Knowledge". The display was a real hit at our most recent "Health Fair".

Hi Alla,
Good point about why it is important to learn why students are enrolled in the course and what their goals are. This way you can target your instruction more accurately based upon the composition of the student body for that term.

I would learn why the students in the class by connecting to their goals and what can get in the way of achieving it, so I can support the goal and help to find ways of resolving the obstacles.

Hi Maria,
If you can get them to focus on the content and then engage them in activities related to relevancy and application of content you will have set the stage for student motivation.
