Motivation

Being authentic is critical in your motivation towards students. If they perceive you not being authentic then you are going to have a difficult time with getting you message across.

Michaya,
So true. This is where respect and rapport is developed by both parties.

Dr. Gary Meers

the more you motivate your students the more they trust you as their instructor.

Kim,
That is what makes teaching so much fun. We get to see them develop into such learners.
Gary

I agree with this completely!! If we make our students feel that they are valued and show them nothing but positivity, they will feel the self motivation and become independent learners.

To encourage students to become self-motivated independent learners, instructors can do the following:

1) Give frequent, early, positive feedback that supports students' beliefs that they can do well.
2) Ensure opportunities for students' success by assigning tasks that are neither too easy nor too difficult.
3) Help students find personal meaning and value in the material.
4) Create an atmosphere that is open and positive.
5) Help students feel that they are valued members of a learning community.

Paul,
You have that right. It is a simple but essential concept that every instructor needs to remember.
Gary

Gary,

It is a know brainier that many officials and people of importance often forget.

Paul,
So true and so important. Without them seeing you as authentic there will be little opportunity for the development of respect and rapport.
