First class problems

I find that my first day of class is spent overcoming the impression made by the last instructor. My students progress through the technical program as a group and when they get to my class, they are furious with the school and the previous instructors. I have to encourage them to keep attending by showing them the final outcome (being successful in their new chosen field). I know that when they leave my classes they are well on their way to achieving their goals!

I also deal with this problem often. In this scenerio, I try and explain that all of our Instructors come from different backgrounds and experinces that are all relative to their education. I try to "spin it" in a way that makes them feel better or just move forward and get over it.

I too have dealt with this issue, however, I try to focus on each class as an individual experience rather than the course of study as a whole. I found that students who dreading a particular class or instructor based on reputation can often find their impression changed after actually meeting with or sitting in that class.

in my first day i had a lot of challenges

I have a similar situation that you do. I spend a lot of the first day dismissing impressions from previous students in the class. It makes it a difficult task to have a positive first class when they attend with a defeated attitude.
