Clear Expectations
"A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link."
Chef Instructors are leaders in the kitchen. We must lead by example and set clear and concise goals for our students. Expectations should be set high and we should adhere to set expextations to achieve success
Julia,
Good for you. This as you know reduces complaints about not being told something about the course. When a student complains I just pull out the signed sheet that says "I have received, read and understand the requirements of this course as outlined in the syllabus." This ends it.

I have my students read an "Expectations for Students" page and sign it. That way, there's no misunderstandings later on.
I agree. I find that students understand that they have a certain standard to live up to in their chosen profession and that they need to start getting accustomed to those standards while they are in school.
Agreed. We should not only set clear expectations and enforce them, but also hold ourselves to those same high standards.
Very True. Establishing clear expectations sets the same standard across the board for all students to go by. Lead by example is probably one of the best methods for modeling. An instructor has the ability to mold their students to a level that's professionally acceptable in their perspective careers.
Benigno,
Right you are and this is something that cannot be forgotten as the course progresses.
