You echo some of my thoughts!
This is a college level course or courses, you should be prepared to work, you should WANT to learn this information! This is your future career and if this is too much work now you (the student) may need to reconsider the reason you are here.
I went back to school later than most of my students and successfully completed my program. I had one class that wanted to 'play games' with names of classmates. I will say that I was not amused and I found myself losing interest very quickly because I did not see a point nor did I think it was necessary.
With that all being said, I am not the most experienced instructor and do have an open mind to any new approach!
