First impressions

For me meeting a class for the first time is probably the most important day in the term. It is important to set the tone for the class, as well as the expectations, and requirements. I like to set a relaxed environment with an emphasis on consequences, both good and bad, that reflects my personal attitude of hard work with a smile.

Maria,
love your excitement for teaching. I wish you much continued success and a great future as a professional educator!

I just completed my first term and i feel great everthing went well. I am excited to start my second term.

Mark,
A common challenge that new instructors face is that they are too critical of themselves and how they delivered their content. Don't beat yourself up too much during this "break in" time as a new instructor. Be conscious of your communication and interaction with students and you will be fine.

I finished my first lecture and played it over and over again in my head that night. How do you get over those concerns about political correctness and other issues that could have possibly offended someone.

Mikel,
You are now an experienced instructor. Welcome to the profession. Glad to hear that your night went well and you feel good about the class. It will be easier going to the next class as a result of this good experience. I wish you much teaching success.

I just met my first class last night in the end i felt good with how everything finished.

Larry,
This is how I like to start new classes as well. This approach gets everyone settled in and feeling comfortable with how the course is going to proceed.
