Foundation of a good first impression
There are so many factors that should to be taken in consideration when we want to create a good impression; the most important would probably be:
Be professional
Know your students
Show them that you care about their education.
How we execute them will determine how successful the educational experience will be.
I agree with Erica. I find that, for me, finding where my students and I have common ground is very helpful in their comfort level as well as mine!!
Ana-Maria,
This is a form of connecting the dots that is valuable to the students and motivating to their learning. Hearing such stories help to make the content real for them.

Also I try to relate to them, by sharing some pertinent personal experiences as student, and as a professional in the work field.
Erica,
I enjoy the first class meeting for the same reason. I get to see my new students find something out about them and set the tone for the class. It is a fun time as we get settled in and do some ice breakers.

I believe the first day with the students is very important. I always start my first day giving information about my background and also asking questions about the student's background.
I enjoy it very much! It gives me a sense of connection.
Thank you
Juan,
Thank you for these good suggestions about the value of making a good first class impression.
