managing your students

At times a challenge they need to understand they are in a professional field, and patients depend on their clinical and medical knowledge.

Michael,
I do to for the reason you state. My students really like role playing and case studies to reinforce what has been shared in the lectures.

I like role playing difficult challenges my students may face in their clinical experiences. This enables them to do more critical thinking.

Kathy,
The majority of our work responsibilities will be in real time and as a result we have to react in real time. This example reinforces that we need to provide such opportunities to and for our students. By being able to think on their feet and communicate clearly they will be viewed as competent professionals. Thank you for sharing how this experience gave you another instructional strategy to use with your students.

One of my instructors brought this to life for my class by doing a 'quiz' verbally, one-by-one, at the back of the class.

So while they were the same questions that I was prepared to write down - I found that was a whole different experience! Being confronted, being asked in person to demonstrate my knowledge and skills in a timely fashion really bridged that reality for me... that I absolutely had to be able to speak and act in real time, not just be able to compose essays over a half hour period.

That one thing changed the way I was learning.

Kathy
