first time

first day impression is the key of success for whole course.

Rhonda,
A positive first impression is the foundation upon which a successful course is built. We need to do everything we can to make that foundation (first impression) a great one.

I totally agree with you. While first impressions set the tone for the class, students also come into class with their personal baggage that may interfere with that first impression. Clear consistent instruction and expectations and following through with this is as equally important. Holding their interest with a variety of teaching methods makes and excellent impression on the first day as well as throughout the class.

I believe the first impression is important, because it is the only impression students pick up on. As a new instructor I am striving to be overly prepared, organized, timely, friendly, and to the point for my first meetings with students.I also plan to inform them about my years of experience in the field rather than my lack of experience teaching.

Fidel,
Consistency has to be a part of every instructors instructional model. Without consistency the students won't know what to believe or follow since the instructor may change his or her position at any given time.

First impression is important, but I believe consistency is more, as adult students will quickly see through you

Alessandra,
We need to bring excitement and enthusiasm to the class each time it meets. If is for sure if we don't the students are going to be engaged. Passion for our field sets the stage for student engagement and learning success.

Demonstrating your enthusiasm for the course is an important skill for the first class. Telling our students that we are excited about teaching this course might help our students with their first impression.

Yes, however, the content and it's delivery must be consistent or else the first impression will fade to the back of the students mind. Students want consistency. Carry that first impression into the second, third, etc. class for a positive result.
