First impression the first day of class
Your first impression should always be the best as well as continue trought out the course of teaching. It should always be proffesional in the way of speaking as well as the way of dress.
William,
This is critical because we are role models for our students.

We judge people on their appearance, so it is important that we convey a high degree of professionalism as in instructor.
Katherine,
This is as it should be because you are setting the standard for how these individuals will reflect your school and their educational program.

Yes, agree. We have to dress and act as we want our students to. We have a strict dress code that the students must follow and all of the instructors have to follow it as well. This isn't just on the first day, but throughout the course.
Michael,
I agree. Setting yourself up as the model for the students to see helps to create the environment you want and from there it is a building process for the students throughout the course.

Shawntel,
I like this approach because it says a lot about the attitude of the instructor. I like to be around instructors that are passionate about their field and excited about getting to teach. This is a win win for everyone.

Since I teach at a culinary school first impressions are key. If I am early, in uniform and ready to go, it shows the students I expect the same from them.
First impressions are good. It also establishes with your students your personality and what they can expect. As our director says...everyday should be like its your first day!!!!
