Begginning of Class

Starting a class with the right foot is critical for us to succeed as an Instructor in the culinary field. Arriving half an hour early prior to class allows me to set the environment in a way that promotes learning and develops engagement from my students. This will ensure the right equipment is working correctly and the product is available for students to effectively accomplish production for that day. It is imperative we lead by example and being prepared truly demonstrates we are committed to our students success.

I like to do the same. Often times it is not possible as my class is the first class right after the main door is open but I think getting ready and welcoming students into the classroom is important for the remainder of the class activity

Shena,
Great list. Thanks for sharing it with us. By following these steps you are organized, settled and ready to start the class. This sends a very professional message to the students and sets the stage for learning success.

In response:
I usually arrive early in class for the following reasons:
-I try to test the equipment to ensure it is working properly.
-I write the objectives and agenda for the day on the white eraser board to keep the flow of the class session.
-I use the time to settle in myself and prepare mentally for the lecture I am preparing for the day.
-meet some students for early tutorial or assistance, also used for extra lab practice on clinical skills.3
-arriving early sets a great professional behavior, which I hope my students will model as they begin their professional careers.

Katherine,
Right you are because the extra time means you can as you say get everything set up and be able to start class on time. It is never fun to be running around at the start of class trying to get a piece of technology to work while the students are staring at you.

Christa,
It is essential because you are the model for the students as they prepare to enter their career choice.

Yes, good organizational skills are imperative so by arriving early, I can assure that everything is working and ready to go. It is also helpful to have a back up plan in case things don't go as planned.

Leading by example I feel is a very strong teaching tool to have on your belt.

Gonzalo,
I like to arrive early and get settled in for the same reasons you do. I think this is an important part of our instructional preparation.
