class first time meet
good to ask their names a little about themselves breaks the ice
Lewis,
Thanks for sharing this ice breaker with us. Most instructors are looking for additional ice breakers to use in their classes and this is a good one for them.

Gary, My icebreaker in the introductory phase of the course on the first day is to pass around a roll of toilet paper and ask each student to tear of as much as they think they will need in the course and one sheet is not enough. Once overyone has their toilet paper I ask them to introduce themselves, tell about their reason for taking the course and earning the degree, their family, hobbies, etc.. Tear off each toilet sheet for each bit of information. It is a great icebreaker and the beginning of building a learning community
Manuel,
This is a fun part of starting a new class. You get to know the students and they you while they are getting a feel for the class and settling in. From there on it is a process of earning their respect and building rapport.

One of the thing that I like about this exercise of introducing myself and let the student introduce themselves is that not only is an ice breaker, but you (as an instructor) can connect with the student. I think this is the point in which you start to learn some the names and make them feel part of the class.
Wayne,
Wondering if you could expand on your comment as part of it seems to be missing and I'm not able to understand your comment? Thanks.
