MAKING A POSITVE FIRST IMPRESSION

HAVING THE SYLLUBUS READY AND INTRODUCING MYSLEF AND LEARNING THE STUDENTS NAMES

Hannah,
I agree and I think this is such an essential part of the developing one's self as an educator. Knowing what we know and knowing what we don't know is a strong strait that instructors need to have.

YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are human We don't know all the answers but WE DO Have EXPERIENCE!!!

Students appreciate humility and honesty from their instructors. It helps build report and trust with you.

Just because we show our "humanness" (playing with words) doesn't mean we lack leadership or are weak...In fact it often requires much more strength to exercise humility.

Making sure that I as the instructor come prepared
With the materials. Having a syllabus and a class outine
Ready right when class starts.

Thomas,
I support your class opening method. I think doing an ice breaker, introductions and sharing some laughs helps everyone get over the nerves and settled into the course. Making the first few minutes enjoyable goes a long way in setting the tone for the course.

I think some ways to get the class off to a good start is let the students know that you are human and not just there to lecture all class long. show students that it is ok to have some level of fun in the class laughter every now and then. this shows the class that they can relax a little bit more in turn making for what I think is a good first impression

Adina,
What are some other ways to get a class off to a good start?
