Meeting students for the first time
Making a good first impression. Well dresses. One time having material ready and easy to understand. Learning the students names after the first day. Shows that you care for them and their education.
Thank you Gary. I always told my students, their succeed is my big reward. Therefore the more they learn the more happier I am.
I do have more than 20 students each class & I teach 6 classes a week. It's very challenging to remember each name except you have to study their facial or something special about them. I feel very good and I also can see the students very happy when I call their name correctly.
Thank you again,
Have a great day.
Michael,
Like the way you approach the classroom. This shows the students that you care about them and want to get to know them and how to be of support to them as soon as possible. This is a very good message to send at the beginning of a new course.

First impression is extremly important. I srongly agree with Adina falub 120%. Well dress, be ready to start the class on time, study students name is also very important. I usally have a map in my classroom. When I call students name, I'll wrote down their name on my map & try to remember their face or something sepcial about them. Take pride and care for students, engage conversation, making sure to help them to success in their career and enjoy your class.
Ivan,
Good points. Respect starts with the first class meeting and builds from there. Respect is two way and when earned by both the students and instructor lays the foundation for rapport to grow.

Dr Meers,
I do think that is a very important strategy to gain their respect and trust. I find that Students are motivated by their instructor's experiences.
Patrick,
I think this is a good way to gain respect from your students. You are letting them know that you have the knowledge and experience to be their instructor and that you are going to share both with them in the upcoming course.

I always try and give a personal account of what lead me to stand in front of the class being as sincere as I can.
Adina,
All good contributions to getting a class off to a good start. This is what will determine how the students see the class being conducted and as a result the level of interest they will have in the course.
