making a good impression

most important part of a first impression is having everything ready the first time you meet the class.

Carol,
This is my style because I like to be in the class when my students come in. This way I can chat with them a bit informally as I get a read on the mood of the class. I am like you in that I want to be relaxed and prepared when it is time to call the class to order.

being at least 15 minutes early, starting on time, being prepared are the best ways to be relaxed enough to show yourself in a good and authentic light so that building rapport can start immediately.

Tracey,
I like to do this as well. Being early I can greet each student and have an opportunity to get to know them more as individuals.

I think arriving early is always the best policy...be the first one in the room.

Donald,
Right you are. It is a building process and day one is the beginning of that process. Why not make it a good one? Always amazed at my colleagues that don't prepare for the first meeting and then wonder why the class didn't get off to a good start.

The importance of such a statement has never been more true. This has to be one of the most critical aspects of teaching,we've been on both sides,we can appricate such a concept
