Setting up a course

How long should you spend on your introduction of yourself and what is too much information?

Jarred,
I would only spend a few minutes on my introduction. I have an ice breaker I do with the students and then we go into introductions. During introduction time I have each student give their name, where they are from and information about experiences they have had in the field if any. Then I have them share something that is really important to them which they are proud of or want to talk about. This can be getting married, new baby, vacation, etc.. This bit of personal information helps me get to know my students better. This is the same kind of information I share during my introduction time. In addition, I spend a few minutes talking about my experience in the field so they know I have the knowledge and experience to instruct them.
