How to Study

I love the idea of telling students how to study. I take it a step further and also inform them of what they should be doing in class and on homework in order to get the most out of my lessons. Every teacher teaches differently. A study method that worked for one student in one class does not necessarily translate.

Crystal,
Good way to remain student centered in your instructional delivery.

I agree that one technique may not work for all. As an instructor I give hints as to what I see may work for them without telling them what works for them.

Brandon,
I would agree. This is how a lot of information can be covered and retained by students. They are seeing both application and relevancy in what is being taught.

That sounds like a nice strategy. Many video game players like to look at walk-throughs to pass through difficult levels in a game. In fact, the presence of a walk-through can make the game feel more enjoyable.

The same might apply for homework. If the teacher doesn't want to discuss or guide the student through the content, then they might not trigger their own excitement in learning. If that sense of fun is triggered, it could produce some really excellent learning moments.

Terry,
I provide these items as well and the result is that my students are better prepared and more comfortable with what they need to learn. They feel supported because they receive these items throughout the course.

True, I believe in providing studying tips and handouts to provide an instructional guideline for students to follow to assist in their learning process of the subject matter.

Bruce,
This is a great service you are providing your students. You are right about the students needing to know how to study for the different courses they are taking. They need to be able to adapt their study efforts to meet the specific needs of a certain course and many cannot do this. You are helping them to be able to be successful in different settings.
