MEETING THE CLASS FOR THE FIRST TIME
meeting a class for the first time is exciting for me. I model the high expectation i have for the group.
Ramona,
After many years of teaching the first class meeting still makes me nervous. Meeting the new students and getting to know them is something I look forward to but makes me nervous as well. These nerves help me to remember why I am there and how important what I am teaching is to my students.

Suzanne,
Same here. I have been a teacher for many years and I still get excited about meeting a new class of students. I welcome the opportunity to meet them and learn of the experiences that they are bringing to the class.

I am always a combination of nervous and excited. I love meeting my students and reviewing all of the great material but the butterflies are there, just as they were when I attended my first days of school year after year
Arisa,
I love the first class meeting because I always have the most interesting students. I feel honored to be their learning leader and know that I will gain much from having them in class.

Hello Arisa,
Even though I have been teaching for a very long time, I am so nervous when meeting a class for the first time. I don't understand that. I am well prepared, I know my subject material and how I intend to facilitate the course. However the first few seconds of a new class, I get butterflies in my stomach. I try to mask it by speaking to the student as they come in and making small talk to get over the nervous energy. But I always get that feeling for a few seconds then classtime as usual.
