Actions speak louder then Words !

Not having experience in this yet, I am firm believer that my actions have to show the students the same respect that I ask them to show me.

Norman,
Respect is earned and cannot be gifted. By displaying respect and then earning respect you as the learning leader sets the tone for the class. Then it is a building process from there for all those involved.

Respect. I frequently tell my students what behaviour I expect in class and the reason why I expect it. I want them to respect their fellow students. I also tell them I hope to earn their respect, but I demand they respect the other students.

Alfonso,
Two way respect sets the stage for the development of rapport and the professional interaction that goes with rapport. This should be a goal for all instructors. Thanks for making this point.

Gyula,
Key point. You actions and conduct will earn you the respect of your students if it is professional and that is something each instructor has to keep in mind during student interaction.

I totally agree on this topic. If you expect the students to respect you, you in return need to give the same respect back. Not meaning for you to be their buddy or friend but professionally respect them as a student and an adult.
