Maria,
Yes, it does. By remembering their names you are showing them respect as individuals and this goes a long way in developing rapport and enhanced learning.

Remembring the name of the students is very important because it make them welcome to the new class
Katrina,
These chats with students not only help you with names but also lets them know you are interested in them as individuals. This really helps in the development of respect and rapport.

Rebecca,
I commend you for your effort in this area. Putting forth the effort to learn student names quickly shows the respect you have for them personally and professionally. By earning their respect you are setting the stage for the development of rapport with them and that is where student engagement really starts.

That is an excellent idea. I try to engage my students in conversation and I repeat their name consistently but I let them know that I am trying to learn their name because that is extremely important to me!
I believe it is necessary to show students how important they are to you. This is done by remembering names. I often look at the students while calling names and then I ask them to tell me something about themselves that would help me remember their names. By the end of the second class, I know the students names. I also address my students as mister or miss. This cause them to feel important.
Pandora,
This is such a valuable way to get to know your students and demonstrate to them that you care about them as individuals. You are earning their respect with your efforts and this forms the base for rapport development.
