Should the instructor wear business attire or uniform? What is more beneficial in a classroom?
Phillip,
I support your understanding of the role you need to play for your students. Yes indeed you are that person to whom they look to see a professional that has been successful and is going to be their learning leader. So each of our interactions with students needs to be guided with the fact that we are models to and for them.

I agree. For some you are going to be the first role model a student identifies as a professional. In some ways it is upon yourself to set a tone for professionalism in your field of study. Even if the field is somewhat casual I feel it is my duty to be a shining example of a professional for students to model.
Juan,
This is very sound reasoning in terms of modeling dress for your students. As the learning leader you are setting yourself up as the person in authority via your dress, actions, language and conduct.

A lot of my colleagues in the graphic design field are artists but as instructors we are expected to adhere to a business casual dress code. Although this is not how we would dress in the studio as practicing artists it makes sense to present ourselves more professionally because we are modeling what the expectations might be for graduates going into a more professional type environment like an ad agency
Kristal,
Depending on the field that you are working in. If a uniform is the common dress for your field then it is appropriate to wear a uniform. If the field is a general area where business dress is common then that would be the clothing to wear. For example many of the health field have scrubs as the dress so the instructor would wear clean crisp scrubs to model how the students to dress.
