This concept validate every time your parents have said first impression are lasting impressions. This is true for your students. How they see for the first time will set the atmosphere or their perception of you until otherwise proven differently.

This helps you to become more human to the students and shows them that you have been where they are now. Sometimes it seems students forget that we instructors were once students ourselves so we do understand where they are coming from.
