A Great Impression
I find that being the instructor I need to be very aware of my own professional demeanor especially on the first day. I need to make sure I am in my scrubs since we are a medical college, and that I am adhering to the same dress atire that I am requiring of each of my students. I should be willing to abide by each of the rules that I am asking of them. Besides, being on time and some of the things I mentioned, what are some other ways I may be able to improve my first day impressions?
CAMILLE,
Well said and so true. They are what the rest of the course is built on.

First impressions are life long lasting impressions...especially in a class setting.
I agree with this statment. We are the example for our students and yheir example. We as teachers must pratice what we preach.
Tammy,
Great way to establish yourself as a model for your students. You are setting the standard for them so it becomes much easier for conform to the required dress, language and conduct.

I agree with the aforementioned ideas as well as introducing myself and informing students what the course is I'll be instructing so they know immediately if I'm the instructor they've been assigned, and it's the right place for them to be. Then I take roll and discuss rules of the institute and the fact students and instructors should all be abiding by them. I hope this lets them know I'm in the same position as them when it comes to conduct and professionalism as far as the institute is concerned. Then I will ask what is our common end all goal. For them it is to complete their schooling in its entirety, so they get their license, and I'm there to help them achieve this outcome. I strive to make it understood that this is a cooperative effort on both our parts but that we can do it in a relaxed but conducive atmosphere to learning.
