Bring cookies to the first class.
That thought will be appreciated by the students.
I agree. Students like to feel appreciated and respected and this is a great way to break the ice as well.
Lacy,
Simple gestures like this go a long way in introducing the human factor into the classroom. This creates a connection that is relaxed and helps students to get settled into the new class.

I feel it's a nice touch to bring a cookie with your students name it shows them that you have taken the time to get to know who they are and that you really do care.
I Feel that this is a good ice breaker. The students will feel more comfortable and it will be a good way to bring the whole class together.. great idea
John,
These are nice touches that help to establish a level of comfort in the class and get the students settled into the learning setting. Plus, a cookie or brownie goes a long way in generating smile and pleasant conversation as the class gets underway.
