non-graded quizz
I think a good way to start with your new class is giving a non-graded quizz and discuss it with them the results. With this, you will show them that you worry if they learn or not, that you want to know their skills and knowledge.
This is a Great idea! I am going to try this with my next class.
I'm going to try this! Taking inventory before instruction begins will help me determine the path to take in the course.
Sharon,
Good strategy and I commend you for using this approach. This is what student centered education is about.

Agreed. I also do this periodically so students know their strong and weak point and so do I. I am then able to customize help for each student.
I think this is a great idea, I'm totally going to try this with my class!
Frankie,
This form of pretesting can give you an idea of what your incoming students know and where you need to start with your instructional content. This is how you can customize your instruction and really zero in on the needs of your students.
