This as worked for me as well. Once I was comfortable with the material, I was able to add my own ideas and examples into the lesson.

This is the format used at our institution. It works especially well because you are able to use someone else's previous experience to your advantage, (just like a student would).

I agree. When I first stated teaching, I would basically mimic the instructor I learned the course from. I did this until I became proficient with the material and comfortable in the classroom, and then I made it my own. I have since gone on to train a few instructors and have advised them to copy what I do until you know the material cold and then add your personality and style to it. This has met with decent success.
