Try to evaluate the students as to the learning styles and adjust the lectures to the students. Try not to bore or frustate anyone. Keep the classroon in a manner that does allow the student to hide or not feel involved. Keep asking questions of different students so all stay attentive to the lectures.

I make sure I have training aids to pass around.
I use pictures and Flex tech presentations for visual information.
I have questions I plan to ask during the day.
I plan on telling stories of personal experience.
I get them out of their seats and go to the lab or parking lot for demonstrations.

I think it is important to consider that not all students learn the same way and so the classroom experience needs to be a mixture of several types of teaching and learning, I mix the use of power point, training aids, and hands on tasks as well as my personal experience injected into the lesson

i will judge each class a little differently, after a day or two , if i have a class with a lot of questions i know there is a lot of interest and if not , the opposite. somtimes i will have to get more visuals out or ready more demonstrations.. i may have to do more questioning for some classes than others . i use alot of art work and insist that they draw the pictures. i am a true believer in the --- a picture is worth a thousand words.

Some of the ways I prepared course content to address different learning styles to add another perspective in my delivery.
1. Identifying 2 to 3 activities we do every day to cover a point I needed to get across to the class.
2. Using question and answer techniques, listening to the students responses to gain insight on their way of looking at the material.
3.Asking the students in class to summarize what was just presented in their own words and then correcting as necessary until the message was clear. Involving the other students on this part is helpful.

First you have to find how each student learns best .By just verbal instruction, having the student do the task or written instruction once you have found this you can do what is best so each student understands completely. Now you can set up your training accordingly

1.Using the white board for something other than a presention slide screen.
2. Using hand outs and physical parts to show their placement and function on an actual vehicle.
3. Using the training lab to show where and what certain components are.
4. Having the students read a portion of their text at home after class and answer questions in the text.

Hello Steve,
Presentations in the different learning styles come in visual, auditorial/verbal, kinesthetic or hands-on and when preparing for class each way of presenting the information should be explored. When considering the learning styles you should have strategies you can use to get the different learners envolved. There are active and reflective learners, we all tend to use both these areas, by trying things out or thinking about what happens or would happen.
There are sensing and intuitive learners. Sensing people who like to hear facts and intuitive learners like discovering possibilities. There are Visual and verbal learners. Each learning style has it's own best style to follow, and each learner needs to understand if they are not learning to address this to the instructor and then I or we can re-present the information in another form or fashion. The key is to get the learner to help thenselves, to know it is ok to commuicate their needs. Visual aids, hands on pass-arounds, flow charts, check sheets, and certain informational videos from the vendors of the truck parts have been prepared before class has started. Also used is online training and have the students report out on what they learned. I have captured some of the courses in a presentaion format for the students to use before and during the e-learning. Going out in lab and matching what is being lectured, going through the lecture, and handouts, to be sure all is on target before teaching the class sets the class on a solid start adressing the different learning styles.

Students have different learning styles. Some are hands-on, some are verbal, and some learn better visually. I like to combine the teaching styles to get through to all the students, and we spend alot of time in lab. If a student needs more individual help I make sure he gets it.

I use bugging of the engines so they can experience hands on, I use Reviews sheets after each chapter and invole group discussions to complete before each test, thru the power point I use the videos that are availible to us.

try to find out the backround of the majority of the students in the class. this will allow me to find the lowest level of back round and than teach to that level of knowledge. example: you might know two or three students in your class and they have most of their course completed, yet you might have a majority of second or third phasers in your room. you must cover the material at a level for the newer students

Steve,
Course content should have a combination of delivery. These should include:
Information- text, explaination, theory of operation, etc.
Visuals- Pictures,videos, color drawings, etc.
Mock ups- pass around demos students can get their hands on.
If the instructor is continually evaluating his learners(questions)he can pay close attention to the way the student answers. Chances are very good the student will convey the information the way they best understand it. This will help to ID the students learning style.

By having reference type materials available for book type learners, to have cut aways to show visual learners what part consist of,to demo for them, and ask question about diagnosis for my fast learners.

Vary my teaching methods, while going over the objectives on the board, asking questions, interacting with the students, have pictures related to the subject, handouts and demonstrations in a way to accomplish the lesson. Students enjoy the presentations and have fun while learning this way.

During the first day and while going over SOP's, I gauge the class and go over different learning styles. I ask the class what learning style they most closely fit under. I try to adjust as much as possible to get all of them involved. I.E.; during lecture, I will pass different parts around that have to do with the subject matter and I will also pose questions to others to get them involved. Sometimes I will put problems on the board also.

Hi Michael,
You are in a very good position as an educator to have available to you such a curriculum. This way you can concentrate on meeting the needs of your students while focusing on learning preferences and developing rapport with them.
Gary

It is very fortunate that I work within curriculum that has already taken this into consideration. All I have to do is make slight adjustments to each part to try and engage all learners at each step. We have computer based training not all students learn well with this method so I work with those individuals with additional coaching sessions and handout materials as necessary, During lecture times the students who have a hard time engaging with that style will have a power point slides to follow as well as visual aids and things to pass around and touch. Then there is the lab practical hands on activities with extra support and tutoring opportunites all learning styles will have had a chance to get the full experience and come away with the tools they need to be successful.

Before start a course I prepare a delivery method that will engage all learning styles. I assign reading where possible. I also like to use Power Points and training aids for the visual learner, and have hands on labs for the tactile learner, and I use lecture to prepare and then review the courses objectives.

I like to observe students during class and lab to get a feel for the different learning styles. Then i will use Q&A,Traing aids and demonstrations during lecture to get as many students as i can to understand the lesson and be involved during class.

When I prepare for my course I have to take in how students learn this take in three major ways that are: Learning by Trial and Error - People learn by their mistakes and through repetition they learn the proper way of completing a task. Learning by Observation - By seeing someone demonstrate the proper way of completing a task. Learning by Doing - This would be done at the end of each topic as this would give the competency phase of learning that the student. With projects and in laboratories the students develop the skills and expertise to complete the task. I as well use materials through group projects and team assignments are also methods of providing instruction that I use.
