checking if i am getting through to students

After talking about something I will ask a guestion. About something I have covered 5 or so minutes ago. Just to see if I am getting through to the students.

Hi Jocelyn,
This is a very good strategy for both the students and yourself. What has been the most remembered example of how this has been effective for your students?
Gary

I use the 'recall' method to test the students comprehension on a subject previously covered. If a certain student originally answer the question wrong, I continue to call on that student to answer the same question during review to insure that the student knows the correct answers. If a student ask for clarification on a certain subject, I usually call on that student during review to answer any review questions regarding the subject. My students have thanked me in the past for 1) remembering that they had not original mastered the information 2) providing an opportunity to recall the information to insure that it is correct.

I do a little review of the intruments that will be used during the case and have them repeat it till they knoew the intrument names.

I have students walk me back through what I have just shown them.I often say , show me how this works , step by step to verify the stident is learning the course material.

I usually do the same and encourage the students to participate, also hinting that the information might be on an upcoming quiz or test.
