My Strategy

What strategies have you implemented for making a course’s content relevant and applicable to the learning needs of students?

I try to use case studies and relevant local news to show how the material is relevant to the students everyday life.

Hi Bruce,
Great way of showing relevancy and application. This will motivate your students to complete their studies since they can see how they will fit into the new work world they are about to enter.

Since I teach paralegals, I'm always on the lookout for rulings from the courts and any print or internet material that speaks to those rulings. I also show TV clips, when possible, to the students. I also like to show my students live court scenes and actually court cases.

Hi David,
You are on the right track with your case studies and relevant local news. Also, provide opportunities for students to apply the information or skills they have just learned. The immediate use of newly acquired knowledge is powerful in keeping student attention. Make the content come alive with examples and activities and before you know it the course phase will be over. You wonder where the time has gone.
