Using all Methods
After participating in this activity and using all different types of methods of content delivery, my class seems more focoused and willing to learn.
For my lab classes, I begin with a brief lecture to explain what will be covered, pass out a handout with the same information as the lecture, and handwrite an outline of the lecture on the dry erase board as I am lecturing. This reduces the "Oh, I didn't know" factor in the class by a large amount.
Hi Stacey,
Good multiple step process of walking the students through the content and then the application.
Gary
I agree, sometimes it is difficult to use group activities. A lot of the student learn better hands on, so individual work is sometimes better in my class. Also the students appreciate the critique and encouragement that we give them to succeed.
At my school we begin each day with a brief lecture to explain what will be covered for the day, then we demo the product followed by student production. While they are working we offer assistance and critique their product. It isn't possible in every setting to use this method of delivery but it is effective at keeping the students engaged.
Hi Ellen,
Go for it! Mix it up and keep them engaged.

Wow, after completing this module, I wonder how my students have kept awake all this time? I definitely need to mix things up and provide some variety to keep students engaged and learning.
Hi Shawn,
Great to hear! What have you found to be the most impacting activity that helped get your students more focused and willing to learn?
