Delivery

I have taught both online and traditionally for 3 years. I wanted to share what I have found works well in my traditional class in terms of delivering the content.

In order to reach a large number of learning styles I have found the following technique very effective. Students love it!

I create Powerpoints for each Chapter and make them available. The students print these as handouts putting 3 slides per page. Doing this leaves room for notes to be written to the right of each slide.

During lecture I have the Powerpoint projected for all to see and they have it printed. This allows them to write in the important and additional information I give as we go through the content.

Since I teach Accouting once the chapter has been gone over in the lecture format described above we break into groups of 3-5 and work related problems.

Very effective - keeps students engaged, covers all four major areas.

Hi Kamen,
Yes, it does take some time to create a well done PowerPoint. Once you get the series completed you will be in excellent shape as you teach the course again. Then you only have to review the slides and make sure they are current and that you are comfortable with them, then you are ready to go.

Hi,
I tried different ways to deliver the lectures myself, and I also found out the students are more interested when it is via PowerPoint presentations. I usually put some small animations and cartoons and it seems to have a very good effect. They just wait to see what is on the next slide. Preparation time for one such lecture is more than 4 hours for about 50 slides, but I think, it’s worth it.

Julie,

That's very effective. You have hit all four learning styles this way. It works well in Accounting, doesn't it?

Are you able to keep the PowerPoints within the 10-15 minute blocks of time?
