I teach a traditional class in a college that is geared to more hands on approaches toward tech and fashion. What are some ways I can get students more interested in a class that is very general a broad as far as content without having to dive too deep into the topics. The class is political science and to be honest, a class each term could be taught on each topic in poli sci.

Hi Michael,
I have never taught a political science course but I do teach a required gen ed course. My students are not the most motivated because it is a required course. I try and pick the "hottest topics" and let them explore them in many different ways. I have my key goal/objectives and we have to accomplish but there are many different ways to get it done. The different approaches allows me to be creative and it helps to engage the students in the learning process.

I agree, you topics are broad and there are too many too choose from! As you state, you could spend weeks on one topic like health care reform etc. With that being said, anytime you can relate a concept in the book to something that is going on today it would be nice to draw them together - the trick is to touch on it and move on. Otherwise, I can see your class being derailed. Good luck!!!
