A couple of things I would suggest that might help your students to stay engaged as you lecture through the content. I use guided notes so the students can follow along and fill in their notes underneath each of the major points. This way they know what the major points are and then the supporting information under each of the key points. Another thing I use is structured outlines. These show the students where the lecture is going to go and what it is going to cover. They don't have to wonder if that point is important or not because if it isn't on the outline they don't need to write it down. These two methods greatly reduce the anxiety level of students because they have help in determining what should be in their notes.

I have found that to prepare good lectures notes, I need to ,not only know the content of material, but, I need also to know the background of my students. Some of my students have been out of school so long, they have difficulty understanding some of the basics of the course. So, I try to prepare my lecture notes is such a way that I cover their basic needs as well as the required content of the program. Perhaps there are betterways. Any suggestions?
