Learning through demonstration
What I like to make sure that I do with my students is have them learn through demonstration.
After my mini lectures I have them demonstrate the lesson back to me on the practice dummy. So they get to reinforce what they learned through action.
Also, I have tried a round robin kind of approach. Where one student starts the process, then for step 2 the next student is up and then step 3 a new student and so on until all the steps are completed. I found this method to be quite effective
I agree. I find that students after watching a demonstration, are eager to return demo, and get their hands on the equipment. They even talk and support each other through it.
Hi Karine,
This is connecting the cognitive part of learning to the physical or tactile. Demonstrations help to seal the connection between the two. Good point.

I agree, demonstration/return demostration is one of the key component of learning. If i need to teach a certain skill, i take time and explain the content/show step by step, then ask students to demonstrate.
Hi Allison,
Using repetition as a teaching tool is a good idea. Your students are being exposed to the concepts and competencies of their field through lecture, demonstration, and watching a partner. This helps them to get the content stored in their working memories.
Gary
I teach clinical classes which have competencies that are required. I have found that by them watching the demonstration and the watching a partner they are much more at ease by the time they are ready to be graded on these.
