trial and error

How can this be done in a lecture setting?

In a lecture setting maybe the student was not paying attention or taking notes; therefore, they flunked their quiz. They will learn next time to pay more attention.

I always try very hard to provide the best and accurate information to my students and most of the time work well!

Jessica

I agree. It gives students the feeling of learning and acomplishment

Thanks

I like your idea of the "idea laboratory". My courses incorporate a lot of discussion, and I encourage students to share their thoughts and opinions. This has led to some wonderful discussion in a safe environment. Each student knows he or she is free to share as he or she wishes and is able to hear different student viewpoints then the ones he or she may hold. This is a good place for students to re-evaluate their original opinions to form more educated ones.

Through discussion. Think of the classroom as an "idea laboratory" - students try out ideas. You can discuss them as a class to see how/if the ideas "work" with the content.

Just a thought: Trial and error may not be the actual act, but also discussing the past experiances that the insturctor or students had in the particular area and what the outcomes were. The real life stories of "what went wrong" really seem to stick with students.

Hi Joyce,
If you can share the type of course you are teaching then I will be able to answer your question better. Want to make sure I give you the best information I can based upon the information I am working with.
Thanks.
