Adjusting to Different Learning Styles
Every class is unique. Adjusting to the needs of the student's learning style makes the instructor's ability to be creative and motivating a dynamic and essential quality.
Hi Tana,
Thanks for sharing this technique with us. This will help instructors to be able to more accurately target the learning preferences of their students.

An interesting activity involves quickly "testing" each student to determine their predominate learning style. I learned this technique years ago in a training course for law enforcement officers as an aid to interviewing individuals: Ask the person a question they will have to think about, i.e., "what was the name of your first grade teacher," or "can you think of anything you dreamed about last night," then observe what direction their eyes gaze as they are in the process of thinking. If the person looks up (either upper left or upper right), they are predominately visual learners. If they look left or right horizontally, they are auditory learners. And if they look down in any direction, they are predominantly tactile learners. I have found that most students are visual learners, however, all students learn better by having multiple senses stimulated simultaneously.
