delivering course content

I have many years experience in my field and many times the couse book is to me sometimes miss leading in the way that I have found to be more successful. Would this be going somewhat a miss or just add to the instruction?

I teach software courses and many times the textbook shows one way, but I can offer another way of doing things that I have learned in practice in my field. I will go through the textbook method, then show another way and promote that the software allows flexibility in getting the same result from multiple directions. Then, we spend a little time exploring other ways the students discover getting the result. We have fun evaluating the pros and cons of each.

Hi David,
I would share with my students the ways you have found to be successful even if they are somewhat different from the text. Just let the students know that what you are sharing with them is based upon commonly accepted business/industrial practice. I always tell my students I am giving them "value added" information that is above and beyond the regular content. They really like this approach.
