Good way to bring in accountability for students. If let them they will let you do all the work in the course while they are being enabled. I always tell my students "I have already graduated, this is why I have the big desk so it is up to you to do the work. If you will I will do my best to support and encourage your success."

I agree that it can be overwhelming! I try to place a little responsibility on the student by assigning them to read over the material to be covered the next day. This allows me to focus on the main points of the lesson, have them highlight in their books and take notes during the lecture and it leaves a little more time for Q&A about what they actually read and on what my lecture was about, and it allows time for other activities (handouts, groupwork, videos,etc.)
