Evolution of Students
I think it's safe to say that with each passing semester and addition of new students, that the student population is evolving. With all of the technological advancements and vast array of resources, the student today is much different than the student of yesterday.
With that in mind, I do truly believe it's important to evolve with the students, so that they can retain, understanding, and eventually apply the material they've learned in a real world setting.
Hi Patricia,
Good suggestion about taking a course that provides insight into diverse student populations. This will help instructors when they are faced with learning and/or behavioral challenges.
Gary
I have to agree the student population coming into the classroom is different from the past. The attitudes that they are bringing into the classroom will make it very difficult for them to go into the work place. We are seeing more students at the post-secondary level with mental challenges that need to be addressed at the primary and secondary level of their education.
Every instructor needs to take a special needs course to help understand what is going on in this student population.
Hi Zarfar,
Good point about the need to change based upon how one's field is evolving as well as the technology that supports instruction. By keeping up with and using both you know you will be presenting knowledge and information that will help your students achieve their career goals.
