Keeping your student motivated

It is very important to set standards and be very creative when teaching material that causes the deer in the head light stare. I 've found that my students learn faster when it is funny or something they can relate to.

Is this the model you use in your own teaching? Students do like the introduction of humor into lectures.

I know when im in class and whomever is lecturing they keep my attention more if they throw a few jokes in.

It's vital to keep the students motivated, you must be creative, be an actress and interesting, I agree students learn faster when they can relate.

I try to keep them engaged during my math classes by having the students come up and do problems on the board if they understand it, then have them teach it to the other students

i agree about having sumthing the students can relate to in classroom topics. it makes the discussions more revelent to the student body.

I find that doing games and activities on feel trips to a dental office keeps my student motivated.

Good point. They need to be shown a connection between their career goals and the current course. In addition, if they can see application of the current knowledge they will become more engaged and focused on the learning process.
