Learning from Instructor and Student Introductions

It is important to know your students and for students to know their instructors. An introduction from the student gives the instructor ideas of where the students are in their educational path. The student should feel comfortable knowing the educational, achivements and how human their instructor is through an introduction

Melissa I agree. The more teachers and students learn about each other up front, the better the classroom environment. Students do appreciate knowing that the teacher wants to learn about them as people, and it certainly gives the instructors some insights into the motivation of each student and the class as a whole.
There is no mystery in teaching--it is the human interaction of sharing knowledge and experiences--to do this we must be human and and humane. As social beings all of us crave to be recognized and appreciated. This all translates into more learning and growth.
