Lesson plans and new instructors

Since the field of teaching is new to me, I can see how lessions plans are an important tool. Are there any online resources available with examples?

I understand what you're saying. I struggle with feeling the need to lecture to cover all the information as well. As I started to meet different learning styles and conveying to the students my belief in their success I felt better involvement and feedback from them.

Thank you for the well wishes. I am finding that I am putting more effort into finding ways to keep the students interested. It is a difficult task because there is so much content to cover, but I do think the retention will be higher. Thank You!

Tracy,
I wish you much success in your teaching career. Keep up your efforts to find ways to engage your students. Try to use examples, stories from your work experience and case studies to keep your students engaged. If you can lecture and then have an activity you will be able to cover more material with a greater retention rate.

I am new to teaching also, and I find it hard to break away from the lecture. There is so much material that needs to be covered in a short period of time. I need to be more creative and get them thinking on their own, not just listening.

Tricia,
I agree. Good to hear of your success with using lesson plans. They are valuable in keeping students and the instructor moving forward in a logical manner.

I have been teaching for several years now and I still use my lessons plans and tweak them now and again...Lesson plans should be used in all colleges.

Also, a lot of facilities will provide their instuctor with the school's own lesson planning template. Just ask :)

Cynthia,
There are many secondary education and community college websites that will give you examples of lesson plans. You can use these templates as guides for the development of your own lesson plans and teaching activities.
