Lessons online versus printed materials
I have noticed it helps me stay organized to keep everything having to do with my classes, curriculum, etc., online, but I recognize much of the training provided here by MaxKnowledge highlights the use of certain printed materials. If I like to implore a "green" approach to teaching materials (but am still open minded about printed materials) what do you consider to be "essential" printed materials?
I was glad to read that you believe that it is important for your students to have a hard copy in their hands. I have been considering cutting down on the number of hard copies that I hand out, but I'm not convinced that is a good idea.
Thank you.
I find it helpful to post the material in an online format and leave the decision of printing up to the student. Each student may have a different learning style that is effective for them and this will allow them to make the best decision for themselves.
David,
I think this is a good idea. I have found as you have that students need repeated reminders about assignment deadlines.

What if I set up regular e-blasts for each lab or project based assignment? As a gentle reminder for them?

David,
Good question about essential printed materials. I can't really answer that because it depends on how you approach the class. I print my calendar with due dates, field trips, speakers, etc.. I also put it on line as I do many of my other materials. By having it printed I refer to it each class session to inform the students of upcoming activities. I have found that if I don't put a hard copy in their hands, post the information on the board and make it available online they won't remember the due dates. It may be just my students but I know for sure I have to do it this way based upon my experience.
