Professionalism

What makes a good Professional?

A professional is one that models the highest standards of the field in which he or she is working through dress, punctuality, credibility, behavior, ethics and competence.

A classroom professional is an example of what the student should aspire to be- a role model for the field of work that they would be entering.

Cambria,
I try to always keep in mind that I may be the first person they have seen in my field on a regular basis so they are measuring my professionalism against their perception of the field. I want that perception to be accurate and supportive to their growth.

I agree with Dr. Meers assessment. Professionalism is about modeling what is the standard of the industry that you are in. Different industries have different standards of professional conduct and should have different ways of modeling and behaving. Being an excellent model for you students provides them with guidelines of behavior, conduct, and resonable expectations for their future.

Joe,
Good question and one that really rests with you the instructor in terms of an answer. A professional is one that models the highest standards of the field in which he or she is working through dress, behavior, ethics and competence.
