Delivering Course Content

When teaching there are a variety of programs in my classes. I am a coder so I often try to read happenings in other divisions of health care to keep the subject matter relevant to all the students no matter their major.

I must also agree. It also helps to make a game out of the material. I also like to use case studies when they are applicable.

It is a good idea and method that I am using the lecture to be short - up to 20 minutes followed by short individual or group assignments.

JoAnne,
Right you are. As an instructor you have to personalize the content to your style and perceptions. You are still using a standardized curriculum but you are making it your own in different ways so you and your students are invested in it for the duration of the course.

If you are given a standardized curriculum to teach, you must still get creative in order to keep the adult learners focused.

Delivering course matter in an effective way is really important as even the most knowledgeable instructor can look ordinary or even unimpressive if the content is not delivered in the effective way.It is aptly said that the instructor is more than a content deliverer, he/she is a performer and performer has to use his voice, eye contact, actions and expressions. The content need to be delivered to student's mind and if not delivered right and causes loss of attention, then its not even registered and does not go to the memory areas of the brain. So all the performance is aimed at letting it reach the higher CNS centers where it becomes a part of the learning process.

Course content must be delivered in a manner that is easy to comprehend and remember. The content must incorporate the most precise and pertinent information of the subject matter being disseminated.
