using the student's body
I am a fan of useing the students own body when I teach human anatomy. I have been told by some that this may be over the level of the course but I have found that my students learn better. Is there a reason this might work or why some are against it?
I love this idea too. I am a massage therapy instructor so I ask the student to palpate their own muscles in accessible area first so they get the idea of where it is and what it feels like. We go over muscle origins and insertions and actions so this approach works beautifully!
I'm not sure what level of A&P you are teaching. But for me this approach my place me "on-guard". I do not particularly like being placed at the center of attention, and if an instructor was using me as an example for the instruction of A&P it would cause me a great amount of anxiety. I don't think it would be a relaxed enough environment for me to learn in.
